HOW FAR SHOULD SELF DEFENSE GO

There are times in life when we have to defend yourself. But how far is self defense acceptable? And when should we actually use it against our aggressor? When attacking we have to bear in mind the consequences could be fatal, Are we ready for the consequences emotional and legal?

It has been said self-  defense is not murder but does that give us a right to murder someone in our defense? This depends on the severity of the case. When attacked, keep these tips in mind;

  • RUN AWAY if possible or;
  • CALL THE NEAREST SECURITY OR AN EMERGENCY NUMBER .
  • KNOW YOUR HUMAN RIGHTS SO THAT YOU KNOW WHEN THEY ARE BEING ABUSED.
  • STAY CALM even when you are attacked. Panicking will make the situation worse. Putting on a brave face even when you are terrified can show the aggressor you are in control which could either scare the aggressor or make them more aggressive because of fear or anger.
  • DISARM THE AGGRESSOR if you get the chance to. However be smart and time the agressor so that you do not end up hurting or even having yourself killed.
  • ACT FASTER AND SMARTER THAN YOUR ATTACKER.
  • BE BRAVE, you may be scared but do not let that make you too weak to act.
  • DO NOT BE AFRAID TO SCREAM AS LOUD AS YOU CAN. It does happen that when we are in bad situations we do not scream maybe because we are scared or we have been told not to.
  • BUY TIME. Every criminal case is different, some happen quickly others gradually but if it is possible for you to get more time for example, an aggressor is coming towards you with a knife, you could buy time by trying to calm the aggressor and talking. Getting more time before a crime is committed could help save you.
  • GET AWAY FROM THE SITUATION AS FAST AS YOU CAN.
