HAVE A BALANCED SELF ESTEEM

        WHAT IS SELF ESTEEM?

Self-esteem describes a persons overall evaluation of their self-worth and/or personal value.

         HOW DOES SELF ESTEEM AFFECT OUR LIVES?

Self- esteem has the potential to affect the way we live our life.

Basically, self esteem affects our social life, relationships, trust, work life, confidence in ourselves, trying new things, appreciating ourselves as we are and getting what we want or even need among other things.

TYPES OF SELF ESTEEM

The types of self-esteem are;

High self-esteem: Characterized by high confidence and no fear in trying things among others.

Some effects of high self esteem are; Optimism,  positive self image, taking responsibility for actions, no fear of rejection among others.

Low self-esteem: Characterized by low confidence and a paralyzing fear of criticism or denial among others.

Some effects of low self esteem are; pessimism, fear of being ridiculed, dependence on others, negative self image, mistrust among others.

Self- esteem is not static and can change.

THE IDEAL SELF ESTEEM

It is important to have a balanced self esteem; this refers to a self esteem that is neither too high or too low.

A very high self esteem can lead to over powering behavior which can make others feel inferior. This is the kind of esteem that can be associated with bullies or most abusers. 'Pushing your way to get what you want despite the negative effect it may have on others.'

However, having a low self esteem can lead to being trampled on, being taken advantage of and even being abused among others. 'Being the doormat.'

The ideal self esteem is having a balanced esteem which is shown with confidence, knowing what is right and doing it regardless of others, understanding the self esteem of others and helping give them confidence because you are already confident.

Balanced self esteem is neither high nor low but its the middle one.
