Holistic Safety for Women and Girls: International Women's Day

Updated: Apr 22

As we celebrate International Women's Day, we view it not only as a day of festivities but as a call to action. This year's theme, "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress," underscores the imperative to channel resources towards supporting women and girls, not just for moral reasons but also for strategic benefits that lead to a brighter and more equitable future.

Investing in women and girls yields manifold advantages, extending beyond individual empowerment. Economic empowerment becomes a catalyst for innovation and job creation, propelling the growth of robust economies. Education for girls breaks the cycle of poverty, nurturing educated communities and cultivating future leaders. Women in leadership positions enrich decision-making processes, contributing to the success and sustainability of organizations. Addressing healthcare, education, and social issues impacting women leads to positive outcomes for families and communities.

In alignment with this theme, SAFIGI is proud to launch a new Safety Report: Holistic Safety in Zambia During and Post COVID-19. This report shows a path on how to invest in girls and young women who face complex safety issues through the Holistic Safety and Analysis tool - a three-step model designed to tackle safety concerns. HoSAI identified critical indicators of internal and external safety through focused group discussions, shedding light on challenges faced by women and girls worldwide.

Solutions for Internal Safety and External Safety

The report outlines solutions for internal safety, including therapy, advocacy campaigns, and education for positive mindset development. Engaging policymakers and service providers is crucial to implementing policies addressing internal safety challenges. Solutions for external safety involve government initiatives, efficient handling of safety concerns, safe education practices, and increased female representation in positions of authority.

By implementing these solutions collectively, we create a comprehensive framework to address internal and external safety concerns for women and girls, fostering a safer, fairer, and more empowering world.
